State of the City Nods
February 01, 2009
Omaha by Design and the Benson-Ames Alliance got a tip of the hat from Mayor Mike Fahey last month in his 2009 state of the city address. Fahey delivered his remarks Jan. 27 at Creighton University.
ObD was cited for its help in developing the city’s Urban Design Element, and the Benson-Ames Alliance was among a number of organizations lauded for their respective efforts to create unique destinations and economic opportunities in different sectors of Omaha:
“Omaha by Design and its Urban Design Element have ensured that all future development adheres to a standard that Omahans deserve. Aksarben Village, Midtown Crossing, and South and North 24th streets are just some of the developments this year that are paving the way for increased dining, shopping, living and business options throughout the city. These public and private investments are creating unique destinations and economic opportunities for all Omahans. They compliment the outstanding work being done by groups such as the Greater Omaha Chamber of Commerce, the Benson-Ames Alliance, Destination Midtown, the North and South Omaha redevelopment efforts, and our numerous business and merchant associations.”
