WANTED: GREAT IDEAS FOR BENSON FREE SPACE
OMAHA – Think of it as the Benson “test kitchen” for great ideas.
Do you have a great idea for a business, organization or event but can’t quite swing the “where” to make it happen? The answer may be on Maple Street in downtown Benson.
The Benson-Ames Alliance and www.BensonBeat.com have teamed up to launch Benson Free Space. Beginning June 1, 2009, the 2,000 square foot location at 6007 Maple St. will be made available free of charge for 30 days to the person or group whose great idea is selected.
The concept, said Jay Lund, is designed to attract attention to the availability of business, office and retail space in Benson. Lund, a brokerage associate with Lund Company and a member of the Benson-Ames Alliance Steering Council, said all submissions will be considered.
“Maybe it’s someone who currently operates a business out of his or her home and is ready to take the next step,” Lund said. “Maybe it’s someone who’d like to try expanding to a second location. Or maybe it’s someone from the local art scene who wants to use the space for an installation. There’s something happening in Benson, and we want to make people aware that it’s a great place to do business.”
A recent market analysis commissioned by the Benson-Ames Alliance noted that the urban character of downtown Benson sets it apart from other sectors of the city. Its grassroots development into an arts and entertainment destination has created a platform for future redevelopment. The analysis is available for download at www.bensonbeat.com in the Benson-Ames Alliance section.
Those interested in Benson Free Space should submit their great idea online at http://freespace.bensonbeat.com. The deadline is April 30, 2009.
All submissions will be reviewed, and the person or group whose great idea is selected will be notified by May 15.
