Sustainable Networking Event June 17
June 01, 2009
If you’re a green business, organization or individual interested in plugging in to what’s happening across the metro, head to Benson Wednesday, June 17. Kind Air, Element Distributing and the Benson-Ames Alliance are hosting a sustainable networking event from 4:30 to 8:00pm at the Pizza Shoppe Collective, 6058 Maple St.
The goal is to give the green community a chance to connect with others who share their interests, identify existing needs and collaborate on potential projects or activities that will help move the city’s sustainability profile forward.
The guest speaker for the inaugural session is Dr. James A. Wilson, a physiological ecologist at the University of Nebraska at Omaha. In 2006, Dr. Wilson was one of 1,000 individuals selected for training by former Vice President Al Gore to deliver the slideshow lecture that accompanies “An Inconvenient Truth,” the award-winning documentary and book that explore the science behind climate change, its impacts and potential solutions.
The evening will also include brief remarks from representatives of Black Sheep Farms, Element Distributing, Kind Air and the Benson-Ames Alliance as well as music by Matt Cox and The Whiskey Pistols and a live art installation by Josh Audiss.
Troy Arthur, vice chair of the Benson-Ames Alliance Steering Council, said the issue of sustainability is at the forefront of all alliance projects, including two currently under way – The Cole Creek Project in the Ames sector and The Maple Street Corridor Project in the Benson sector. The Benson-Ames Alliance, formed in 2005, is striving to become a sustainable community that actively seeks a balance between its built and natural environments. It is bordered by Western Avenue on the south, Sorensen Parkway on the north, 72nd Street on the west and Saddle Creek Road/Fontenelle Boulevard on the east.
