Youth Art Auction
The Neighborhood Center will host its annual Youth Art Showcase and Auction Thursday, April 1. The event, which is open to the public, will be held from 5:00 to 7:00pm at Security National Bank, 101st and Pacific. A donation of $25 is suggested for those who wish to attend. Light hors d’ oeuvres and beverages will be served. Students ages eight to 18 from throughout the metro have been invited to enter their best work in one of six categories – pencil, watercolor, pastel, crayon, photography and 3-D art. The 2010 fund-raising goal is $40,000, and all funds raised support Neighborhood Center operations. Tree Care Essentials
The Nebraska Forest Service will host a half-day tree care workshop in Omaha Tuesday, March 23, at the Douglas/Sarpy Extension Office, 8015 W. Center Road. The event is designed for public works employees, landscape managers, tree board volunteers, arborists, nursery professionals and others in the green industry. Restorative Justice Program
The Neighborhood Accountability Board Program, a new restorative justice initiative at the Neighborhood Center, is seeking volunteers interested in helping at risk youth in their community. Volunteers will meet two evenings a month with nonviolent youth offenders, putting together contracts that will give them a chance to make restitution while also integrating them back into the community. An introductory training session will be held for those interested in volunteering. Volunteers from all walks of life, ages and backgrounds are welcome to apply. UNO Earth Day
Environment Omaha will participate in the University of Nebraska at Omaha’s inaugural Earth Day event Thursday, April 22. Activities will take place in the Pep Bowl south of the Eppley Administration Building from 10:00am to 2:00pm. The keynote speaker is Christine Bywater, the Omaha Public Power District’s project manager for sustainable energy. The rain date is Thursday, April 29. June Adventure Race
Urban Omaha – The Ultimate Adventure Race is coming to town Saturday, June 5. The event, hosted by Activate Omaha, will begin and end in the midtown area. Teams of three will bike, run, climb, paddle and navigate their way through Omaha while searching for check points. For more info, visit www.activateomaha.org.
