spellman receives distinguished leadership award
March 10, 2010
Connie Spellman, director of Omaha by Design, is the recipient of a distinguished leadership award from the American Planning Association’s Nebraska Chapter. She was honored at the chapter’s annual conference held Feb. 25-27 in Grand Island.
The Distinguished Leadership Award for a Planning Advocate recognizes an individual who has advanced or promoted the cause of planning in the public arena. Those nominated may include members of planning commissions, boards of zoning appeals, economic development boards and environmental or historic preservation councils as well as other appointed officials, citizen activists and neighborhood leaders. Criteria include the support of planning and planners, effectiveness and results.
“From its inception in 2001, the Omaha by Design process – led by Connie Spellman – has been at the forefront of every major planning initiative in the City of Omaha. Connie’s ability to forge strong public/private partnerships, her work with local planners and her willingness to tackle tough planning issues qualify her as a true citizen planner,” a nominator wrote.
