place game may 15
May 12, 2010
The Neighborhood Action & Fact Association is partnering with Omaha by Design to host a Place Game workshop Saturday, May 15. The event will be held from noon to 2:00pm at the group’s meeting facility on the corner of 24th and Mandersen. Anyone from the neighborhood – residents, businesses, civic groups – can attend and participate.
The Place Game, a free service of Omaha by Design, is a fun, easy and organized way of brainstorming potential improvements to public spaces by listening to the people who use them. It was created by the Project for Public Spaces (PPS), a nonprofit organization dedicated to helping people create and sustain public spaces that build stronger communities.
The Neighborhood Action & Fact Association, established in 1979, runs from 24th to 26th and from Wirt to the south side of Ames. During the workshop, trained Omaha by Design facilitators will lead small groups through the area, asking them to take note of what they see, hear and feel. The groups will then convene for a brainstorming session to identify opportunities for improving the area. The May 15 workshop will focus on two segments of 24th Street.
In 2010, all groups that complete a Place Game workshop and apply for grant funding will receive a free tree from Omaha by Design as well as assistance with site selection and planting.
