walk with the mayor in 2010
May 12, 2010
How can you learn more about your city while getting in a round of exercise this spring, summer and fall? Plan to attend a 2010 Mayor’s Walk.
Mayor Jim Suttle – in partnership with Live Well Omaha, Omaha by Design and the Omaha Marathon – will host a series of guided neighborhood walks throughout the city. “The walks are an opportunity for Omahans to become active, learn more about the neighborhoods that make up their city and walk with their mayor,” said Connie Spellman, director of Omaha by Design.
Starting this month and running through November, Mayor Suttle will host one Saturday walk per month. Each walk will feature a guide with knowledge of the area. Omaha’s S. 24th Street is the site of the first walk Saturday, May 15, at 1:30pm. This nationally registered historic commercial district has been a center for national, state and local events. Local guide Vince Furlong will give walkers a glimpse into the area’s history, culture, architecture and status as a destination for immigrants.
The walks are free and open to the public. Those interested in attending the May 15 walk can park in the plaza area between 24th and 25th streets at N Street. The walk will start promptly at 1:30pm from this location.
