Benson SummerFest June 12
Benson will be the place to be Saturday, June 12, in conjunction with Benson SummerFest 2010. The event runs from 8:00am until midnight up and down Maple Street. Activities will include a pancake feed, the 2010 Omaha All Ford show, an arts and crafts showcase, an outdoor concert, a motorcycle show, the Benson Farmers Market and music on Maple. Block of Builders June 15
The Neighborhood Center will host a Block of Builders workshop on dealing with junked cars and similar nuisance issues Tuesday, June 15. The event, which is free and open to the public, will run from 5:30 to 7:00pm at the Neighborhood Center, 115 S. 49th Ave. Lt. Steve King from the Omaha Police Department will give an overview of vehicle violations that occur on public and private property. Meeting of the Minds June 16-19
More than 100 leaders from around the world will join their counterparts from the public, private and independent sectors in Nebraska June 16-18 for Meeting of the Minds 2010. The annual conference, which will be held at the Qwest Center Omaha, will involve two-plus days of intensive exchange about creating more sustainable cities using smarter design tools, sounder environmental practices and cleaner energy systems. The event is hosted by the Joslyn Institute for Sustainable Communities and convened by the Urban Age Institute. For more information, visit www.MeetingoftheMinds2010.org.
Mayor’s Walk June 19
Mayor Jim Suttle – in partnership with Live Well Omaha, Omaha by Design and the Omaha Marathon – is hosting a series of guided neighborhood walks throughout the city. The next walk is set for Saturday, June 19, at Prospect Hill Cemetery, 3203 Parker St., at 10:00am. The cemetery is the final resting place of many Omaha pioneers, including influential developers, religious leaders, mayors, judges and benefactors for whom Omaha streets, parks and schools are named. Prospect Hill was designated a landmark by the City of Omaha in 1979. The walk will be guided by members of the Prospect Hill Cemetery Association. Rain Barrel Class June 21
The University of Nebraska-Lincoln (UNL) Extension will offer a class on how to make a rain barrel Monday, June 21. The event will run from 7:00 to 8:30pm at the UNL Extension Office, 8015 W.
