2009 annual report available online

Omaha by Design’s 2009 Annual Report is now available online at www.omahabydesign.org.
The report chronicles the organization’s newly defined direction as a civic planning organization dedicated to the development, implementation and monitoring of urban design and environmental public policy in the metro. Progress in Omaha by Design’s four areas of focus – Green Omaha, Civic Omaha, Neighborhood Omaha and Environment Omaha – is charted. Among the projects highlighted:
The Cole Creek Project, a $1.6 million urban stream restoration initiative that’s the first to follow the city’s Urban Design Element recommendation calling for the transformation of the Papio Creek waterways into a citywide public park and recreation system.- The development of www.publicartomaha.org, a partnership with the Omaha Public Art Commission that celebrates the important role public art plays in the life of the city.
- The creation of 9 in ’09 Great Walks, a list that takes walkers through a mix of urban environments, from park settings to historic and cultural areas.
- Environment Omaha, a new policy development initiative designed to create a comprehensive environmental section for the city’s master plan.
