tree planting sept. 18
September 14, 2010
OMAHA – The Hands to Harvest Community Garden, a joint effort of the Ford Birthsite and Leavenworth neighborhood associations, will grow by one tree Saturday, Sept. 18.
Omaha by Design will host a tree planting event at the garden, located at 1113 S. 31st St. between Pacific and Poppleton, at 9:00am. The organization donates a free tree to all neighborhood and civic groups that have completed a Place Game workshop and applied for grant funding to help implement their ideas for improving the neighborhood.
The Place Game, a free service of Omaha by Design, is a fun, easy and organized way of brainstorming potential improvements to public spaces by listening to the people who use them. It was created by the Project for Public Spaces (PPS), a nonprofit organization dedicated to helping people create and sustain public spaces that build stronger communities.
Omaha by Design conducts Place Game workshops free of charge from March through October. For more information about the tree planting or the workshops, call 402.554.4010 or email info@omahabydesign.org.
