“Omaha Strata” Print
Help art by buying art.
Noted artist Allan Tubach has created “Omaha Strata” in celebration of Omaha by Design’s 10th anniversary in 2011. Proceeds from the sale of 100 signed and numbered “Omaha Strata” prints will benefit the Preserve Omaha Public Art Fund, which is managed by the Omaha Parks Foundation in consultation with the Omaha Public Art Commission.
The cost of the print (giclee print size: 19” x 12-3/4” on 23-1/2” x 16-3/4” paper) is $395 unframed or $480 framed. To make a purchase with a credit card, visit www.omahafoundation.org and click on “Make a donation.” Select “Omaha by Design” from the drop-down list to donate to, then fill in the amount and the contact information. Heron Haven Membership
Get back to nature.
Become a member of the Friends of Heron Haven – a family membership is only $25 a year.
This spring-fed wetland sanctuary, located at 11809 Old Maple Road in Omaha, has nature trails and a boardwalk that are open to the public every day, free of charge. It features one of the last oxbow wetlands of the Big Papillion Creek. Despite its location within Omaha’s city limits, it provides visitors with a peaceful refuge for studying, observing or simply enjoying the natural environment.
A membership allows families to participate in the Heron Haven Camera Club, which meets the third Saturday of the month at the haven’s nature center. For more information, call 402.493.4303 or visit www.heronhaven.org.
PAO Mobile App
Learn about the city’s public art collection.
For those of you on a budget, grab your giftee’s smart phone while he or she isn’t looking and download the Public Art Omaha mobile app for them (it’s free). Developed by students in the University of Nebraska at Omaha’s College of Information Science and Technology through a partnership of Omaha by Design and the Omaha Public Art Commission, the app allows users to find art near them, identify art in front of them and search for art by location, title, artist and more. It can be downloaded from the Android Market and the App Store. Links to each site are available on www.publicartomaha.org.
