In March Michael Van Valkenburgh and Associates (MVVA) presented their vision for the revitalization of the Gene Leahy Mall.
In part, they concluded that the majority of the Mall cannot be seen from the street
primarily because of the combination of vegetation, walls and steep slopes.
In April, the city took the first steps toward making the Mall a better public space.
First, the Parks and Recreation Department trimmed trees to give pedestrians a better view of the Malls interior.
Here are some before and after shots of what they accomplished.

Second, Mayer Fahey announced that, following the Summer Arts Festival 165 feet of the wall along Farnam Street will be removed by the city at a cost of $60,000 further improving views into the park.
