Metropolitan Community College broke ground on June 2, 2005 for its South Omaha Campus Connector Building, the College’s first new building in 25 years.
This project kicks off the expansion plan for Metro’s South Omaha campus that involves the City of Omaha, Metro Area Transit and the college in a unique partnership.

Designed by Bahr Vermeer and Haecker Architects in Omaha, the connector building will link the educational buildings on the South Omaha campus and the new joint Omaha Public Library/MCC South Omaha branch library. Designed to have a community feel, the new facility also will include a bus terminal providing unprecedented student access to education.
Consistent with the Civic Omaha recommendations in Omaha’s Master Plan, the brick work and building design are reminiscent of South Omaha’s strong community heritage. The contemporary glass front will signal that an educational experience is within, for all to share.
Metro Community College President Jerry Moskus said, “This building shows great respect for South Omaha’s strong heritage as a community where newcomers could succeed. At the same time, it makes a powerful visual statement that speaks to the advanced educational opportunities inside.”
Omaha Mayor Mike Fahey sees the new building as yet another sign of revitalization in South Omaha. Fahey said, “Not only will this facility open new doors to educational opportunity; it sends a strong signal that this is a vibrant, healthy community with a promising future."
Omaha By Design conducted a Place Game Workshop on the site in October 2003 to support the College’s Master Plan Process. See the results of that workshop.
