environment omaha implementation team (EOIT)

Mission

The Environment Omaha Implementation Team (EOIT), comprised of public and private community leaders convened by Omaha by Design, is helping guide the implementation of recommendations outlined in the city’s Environmental Element. Adopted as a component of Omaha’s master plan in December 2010, the Environmental Element contains more than 600 recommendations related to creating a more sustainable city. The recommendations fall within five categories – the natural environment, urban form and transportation, building construction, resource conservation and community health.

Leadership

Mike McMeekin (Lamp, Rynearson & Associates) and Steve Jensen (Jensen Consulting) co-chair the EOIT. Team members are Rick Cunningham, Mikki Frost, Larry Jobeun, Kent Holm, Daniel Lawse, Ron Duce, David Levy, Jay Palu, Garry Ruliffson, Marty Shukert, Julie Stavneak, Marcella Thompson, Kristi Wamstad-Evans and Connie Spellman.

Task Force Approach/Chairs

The EOIT has set up six task forces to help identify groups that are currently addressing the document’s 600+ recommendations and prioritize those recommendations where no action is occurring. To help the task forces process the recommendations, a database has been created that allows the content to be sorted in a number of ways. Once the work of the task forces is complete, the EOIT will look at launching implementation projects based on the prioritized list. The six task forces and their respective chairs are:

  • Kent Holm – Natural Environment Task Force
  • Marty Shukert – Urban Form/Land Use Task Force
  • Daniel Lawse – Urban Form/Transportation Task Force
  • Jay Palu and Garry Ruliffson – Building Construction Task Force
  • Marcella Thompson – Resource Conservation Task Force
  • Mikki Frost – Community Health Task Force
