public art omaha mobile app

Omaha’s public art collection is growing, block by block. Omaha by Design and the Omaha Public Art Commission have partnered to launch a free mobile app that gives users instant access to it.

The Public Art Omaha app, powered by www.publicartomaha.org, allows users to find art near them, identify art in front of them and search for art by location, title, artist and more.

In June of 2010, Omaha by Design and the Omaha Public Art Commission launched www.publicartomaha.org, a celebration of the city’s public art offerings that includes a database of individual works that can be searched by location, medium, title and artist. It currently features more than 300 pieces by more than 200 artists, and new works are added as they are identified. The new mobile app, available for both Android and iOS powered phones, is a follow-up enhancement to the web site.

Developed by students in the University of Nebraska at Omaha (UNO) College of Information Science and Technology, the app requires a GPS signal and a mobile data connection for best results.

Support information for the app can be found at http://publicartomaha.org/pages/contact/mobile-apps. Its development was made possible by the H. Lee and Carol Gendler Charitable Fund, Omaha by Design and the Omaha Public Art Commission.

The Public Art Omaha mobile app can be downloaded from the Android Market and the App Store. Links to each site are available on www.publicartomaha.org. For more information, contact Omaha by Design at 402.934.7055 or info@omahabydesign.org.
