Hanging Out
with Public Art
For several years now, the Summer Arts Festival has been instrumental in bringing new Public Art to the attention of Omahan’s. The Wind & Water exhibit from previous years has become a permanent installation of 11 large scale sculptures on the Gene Leahy Mall.
This year the art is a bit more ephemeral, but is sure to be just as important to the fabric of summer in the city. In fact, it is fabric. The Omaha Online project isn’t about the internet; it’s about another kind of line, a clothesline.
Developed and organized by local artist, Eddith Buis the project will showcase 43 works of “clothing” and “quilt panels” designed by 120 Omaha artists. The works will be installed on the overhead cables near the public slides at the east end of the Leahy Mall. The items will be “hanging out” from Thursday June 22 through Friday July 7.
You can find out more and see all the works at the Omaha Online website;
