Holiday Lights Festival

Great public places are wonderful to visit any time of the year, but they are extra special when they are the setting for a party.  Omaha’s Holiday Lights Festival is fast becoming one of the largest in the country adding more lights every year extending outward from the Gene Leahy Mall along 10th Street from the Qwest Center through the Old Market and west up Douglas and Farnam to 16th from Dodge to Howard.

This year’s festival runs from the lighting ceremony on November 25th through January 9th.

Sounds of the Season will fill the Gene Leahy Mall with holiday music every Saturday evening, November 27 through December 18. A variety of choirs and musicians have generously donated their time and talent to perform for visitors strolling through the lighting display.

Professional ice carvers will return to the ConAgra Foods campus to carve 100 blocks of ice weighing more than 16 tons. This year the team will carve a tribute to Lewis & Clark and the Corps of Discovery. Visitors may watch the artists working December 23 through 25 and see the complete sculpture on December 26.

The Holiday Lights Family Festival provides a once-a-year opportunity for the community to experience many of Omaha’s leading arts and cultural institutions. Free activities will be offered at all seven participating venues and free trolley service will connect all locations.

On Friday, December 31, at 7pm ConAgra Foods will host the Holiday Lights Festival New Year’s Eve celebration. The annual fireworks display has become an Omaha tradition and is the largest New Year’s Eve fireworks show in the region.

The Holiday Lights Festival is a great example of transforming a public space into a very special place for the holidays.
