Place Game participants’ suggestions focused on safety, maintenance, landscaping and cleanliness issues. Park Avenue is seen to have many hidden and under-utilized strengths.

Central issues included:

• • Need to realize the great potential for development in the area including commercial storefronts, large population, historic character, active neighborhood association, Hanscom Park, and Ford Birthsite gardens.
    
     
  • Maintenance actions need to address upkeep of street signs, overgrown trees, and unremarkable landscaping.
    
    
  • Cleanliness considerations such as more trashcans and emphasis on litter reduction.
    
    
  • A commitment to improving of commercial building and landscape maintenance is needed.
    
    
  • Drug use and prostitution in the area are concerns and will require collaboration with the City, Omaha Police Department or Omaha Housing Authority.
    
    
  • There is a need to calm traffic for pedestrian safety and to reduce undesirable car traffic in connection with crime prevention.
