BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS

 

OMAHA DOUGLAS PUBLIC BUILDING COMMISSION

 

RESOLUTION

 

     WHEREAS the security of governmental facilities took on a new level of importance due to the tragic events of September 11, 2001; and

 

     WHEREAS it is necessary to take every action possible to provide a safe environment for the employees working in the Omaha Douglas Civic Center/Hall of Justice Complex and the citizens who visit the facility; and

 

     WHEREAS it was determined that security barriers should be placed by some of the entrances to the facilities; and

 

     WHEREAS while securing the facility is of the utmost importance, it is also advantageous and desirable to provide a visually pleasing environment; and

 

     WHEREAS Lively Omaha, an initiative of the Omaha Community Foundation, has worked diligently to assist the Omaha Douglas Public Building Commission to develop a plan to provide security barriers that are in the form of concrete flower planters which are both functional and attractive; and

 

     WHEREAS Lively Omaha was instrumental in obtaining funding for the 18 planters currently in place on the Civic Center/Hall of Justice grounds;

 

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the protection and the aesthetics of the Omaha Douglas/Hall of Justice Complex and surrounding grounds have been greatly enhanced by the work done by Lively Omaha; and

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the members of the Omaha Douglas Public Building Commission on behalf of the citizens of the City of Omaha and Douglas County and the employees working in the Omaha-Douglas Civic Center/Hall of Justice complex do hereby recognize and express our sincere appreciation to Lively Omaha for their dedication to the betterment of the community.
