New guide to Public Art in Omaha available now! 

A new Public Art brochure is being distributed to art galleries, museums, hotels and visitors centers all over the city that will guide residents and visitors to some of Omaha’s finest works of free Public Art.

 

Fifteen works by local, regional and national artists are featured in the 11’’ x 17” full color brochure made possible by The H. Lee and Carol Gendler Charitable Fund, The Nebraska Arts Council, Omaha By Design, and The Omaha Public Art Commission.

 

The works are situated all over the city from the River to Millard and from Lake to ‘L’ Streets.  A map and directions are included in the brochure to guide visitors to every site. The Omaha Public Art commission selected the art for the brochure from the more than 100 works in the Omaha by Design Public Art Database.
Styles range from the representational “Jazz” by Littleton Alston on North 24th Street to Leslie Bruning’s abstract Pyratra on South 108th.
Scales from Sidney Buchanan’s massive “Hammerjack” to the contemplative “Reading Garden” by Katherine Fergusson are also featured.
History and heritage themes are also represented with Kent Ullberg’s “Sprirt of Nebraska Wilderness” and Tom Bartek’s “Nebraska Centennial Glass Mosaic.”  The pieces were created between 1967 and 2004.
