Brainstorming Session Emerging Themes

The Place Game teams recommendations and suggestions included:

  • Create identity of 20th Street as an arts corridor, a children's corridor and an educational corridor from elementary school to high school to university levels including Liberty Elementary, Central High School and Creighton University.

  • Design a concept for banners, sculptures and signage. Could move from playful to sophisticated as educational levels move from elementary to university.

  • Explore options for traffic control

    1. Speed and noise reduction along the street.
    2. Creation of a boulevard system or start with 2 way street with diagonal parking.
    3. Tiered levels to creative pedestrian "walkways" along 20th street
    4. Bike lanes as part of connection and pedestrian friendly location.

  • Focus on needs of children. Make street and spaces connected, safe,   comfortable and fun for walking, visiting and playing.

  • Increase lighting and create "signature" lighting for length of street.

  • Create identifying features

    1. Arches at both ends of the CAD on 20th
    2. Creative Signage to identify facilities and their proximity to each     other to encourage walking between facilities.
    3. Sculpture, wall murals, etc.
