Creighton's Sense of Place
Creighton University has long been an important part of the
Omaha landscape and is posed to become a significant addition to the
revitalization of downtown and public space in the city. The university’s grounds now cover 90
acres and plans have been laid to add another 20 to its urban campus.
The planned expansion will include academic buildings,
student residences, sports venues, better defined campus entries and create a
more unified, integrated campus.
Planners have given special attention to the public space and venues for
public events like sports, dining and recreation.
Creighton plans to expand green space creating a park-like
setting that will include grassy lawns, tress, walkways, plazas and
fountains. The campus’ public
spaces and common areas will be unified with lampposts, benches and signage
crafted to give students and visitors a sense identity and continuity.
In coming month’s progress will be made on a 5,000 seat $12
million soccer stadium within walking distance for student’s and downtown sports
fans. Baseball diamonds and tennis
courts will join the stadium on the campus’ east side that now stretches to 17th
street from Cuming to Cass.

Creighton’s plans will move the University into the 21st
century with a focus on education, research and service on campus designed to
nourish the minds and hearts of its students, faculty and community.
