Group
3 - Dodge Street from 8th to 10th Streets

What the Place Game Team Liked Best
The team saw the roadway support piers
as frames for sightlines in the area and liked the potential
in the change from urban to park settings. They appreciated
the architecture’s scale, character, history and symmetry
and saw the Dodge Street off ramp as a gateway to Omaha.
What Could Be Improved
The area was confusing with poor pedestrian
access, lots of noise, high speed traffic, litter and weeds.
Short Term
- Cleanup is necessary throughout the area.
- Build a better sidewalk system.
- Finish current construction.
- Improve landscaping with add vegetation.
Long Term
- Treat the Dodge Street off ramp as a entrance to downtown.
- Use docks lining Dodge as cafes, plazas and other outdoor
spaces for people to congregate.
- Install traffic calming devices to create sense of arrival
into a wonderful space particularly at the Dodge off ramp.
- Create a Riverfront transition that indicates where the
river is for pedestrians and vehicles.
- Encourage activities in the warehouses such as art galleries,
concert venues and dining.
- Conceal surface parking using landscaping around the
Quest Center Omaha.
- Develop buildings with uses for pedestrians and/or more
housing.
- Improve pedestrian traffic flow and walkability along
10th Street.
- Use docks along Dodge to create at 8th as an entrance
for vehicles and a great view for pedestrians.
