What the Place Game Team Liked Best

The Place Game team liked the visibility of the site from Q Street, proximity to the South Omaha business district and easy access to the freeway. The also appreciated the view to the north, bus line access and the nearby shopping.

What Could Be Improved

The group thought the surrounding neighborhood was in disrepair, noticed odors and the unsightly microwave tower. They disliked the industrial character and stark street lighting. The pedestrian crossings in the area were seen as unsafe and they felt that parking for the new library may be a problem.

Short Term

• Create a park across Q Street with
  an access bridge.
• Focus on community activities at the site
  especially summer activities for children.
• Improve the lighting.
• Add benches, flowers and shrubs.

Long Term

• Build a cultural center such as a
  mini-museum that would focus on
  South Omaha history or incorporate
  into the connector building.
• Install public art with interactive sculpture
  and at least one signature piece
• Create a “reading” garden with a
  courtyard or atrium.
• Create a trail or sidewalk system that
  would lead up to the library.
• Focus on Q Street development.
• A dd a concert area with an amphitheater.
• Build an arboretum.
